Yesterday was Easter Monday, which is a bank holiday for the UK (meaning banks, etc. are closed and most people have the day off from work). I thought I would take the kids to Fountains Abbey where they were having some fun (and free!) Easter activities for families.
I guess I wasn't the only one who heard about this, because the parking lots were overflowing with cars. I was fortunate enough to get a space. I have never seen so many people at Fountains Abbey before.... crowds and crowds! Anyway, at 2:00 they had an egg rolling contest. They called the contestants by age groups. The kids stood at the top of the hill, and after a "Ready, Steady, Go!," they rolled their eggs down. The child whose egg went the furthest was the winner.
Maddie's group went first, and she did great! I think I was most proud of her climbing down and back up that hill so quickly.
Tim's group was next. We squeezed him into the line up.... (that's the back of his head in the middle)... he gave a good roll (that's his green egg, just above the girl's shoulder)
... and started running (can you see his little green egg all the way at the far right?)
... and he kept on running to collect his 2nd place prize!!!!!
Needless to say, he was very excited about winning! His prize included two large Cadbury chocolate eggs. After the egg-citing race (ha!), we walked back up the hill and the kids got their faces painted (for free!). Tim was a dragon, and Maddie was a butterfly!
It was an egg-celent day!
I Am.
